Our goal

We are calling upon the Federal Government to make pain a national health priority.

One in five Australians lives with chronic pain, including adolescents and children, and this prevalence rises to one in three people over the age of 65.

Current evidence and the experience of millions of Australians living with pain, support the urgent need for improved pain services as a moral and economic imperative.

Across Australia, pain is the most common reason people seek medical help – from General Practitioners and in pharmacies. Yet pain remains the most neglected area of healthcare. While acute pain resulting from injury or trauma is generally short term and relatively easy to treat, chronic pain is far more complex, persisting long after the normal time of healing. Sometimes chronic pain exists without a clear reason at all.
